Simple syrup recipe: equal cups of sugar and water
Simple syrup dissolves granulated sugar in water so it mixes easily into cold drinks. This simple syrup recipe uses equal volumes:1 cup sugar and 1 cup water. It is a volume ratio, not an instruction to weigh equal grams.
Choose a small saucepan with enough headroom to stir safely. Start with a clean storage container and allow time for cooling before using the syrup in an iced drink.
Domino’s published method chills the syrup uncovered for 2 hours before covering and gives refrigerated storage up to 4 weeks. Use a clean container and discard syrup showing mold or other spoilage; the stated period is not a guarantee under poor handling.
A syrup made with more sugar has a different concentration. Do not replace one with the other measure for measure and assume a drink will have the same sweetness.
Ingredients
Step 1
Measure water with a liquid measuring cup and sugar with a dry measuring cup. Combine them in a saucepan.
Step 2
Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the liquid reaches a boil. Remove from heat rather than reducing it into a thick candy syrup.
Step 3
Let the initial heat subside. Refrigerate in a clean heat-safe container, initially uncovered as directed by the sugar maker, then cover once chilled.
Step 4
Use a clean spoon or pour out the needed amount. Keep refrigerated and label the preparation date.
